Broncos lose Simms to ankle injury, sign backup
So much for a quarterback controversy.
Adam Schefter at ESPN.com reports that Denver Broncos quarterback Chris Simms, who missed practice Tuesday, could be out two to four weeks with a high ankle sprain. Simms is 16-for-24 passing for 186 yards and two touchdowns in the Broncos’ two preseason games.
Without Simms, the Broncos will be forced to press rookie backup Tom Brandstater into more playing time this preseason and, depending on how long Simms is out, possibly look to add another backup.
UPDATE, 8/26: The Broncos have signed quarterback Ingle Martin, who was released by the Kansas City Chiefs earlier this month. Martin has spent time with the Tennessee Titans and Green Bay Packers. He is expected to play in the Broncos’ next preseason game against the Chicago Bears.
